For Parents

Instill a love for books in your child for reading success

Research shows that the strongest readers are those who want to read, not those who are forced to read. To help your child fall in love with books:
  • Read to her/him every day.
  • Let her/him "own" the book. Let her hold the book and turn the pages while you read.
  • Have a reader's theater. Use a different voice for each character or use your hands to show what is happening in the story.
  • Follow her/his lead. Consider the length of your child's attention span for listening to a story. She may only be able to manage a five-minute story now.
  • Invite your child to look at the pictures and tell you what she thinks is happening.

From the Principal

As we enter the second semester, we commence on testing season.  In order to continue to meet the challenges of rigorous curriculum and assessments, we must analyze our mid year data and create a plan of attack.  For our K-2 students, we analyze our mid year TPRI results and make adjustments in the classroom to ensure our students are successful.  Third and fourth grade students will begin targeted instruction and tutorials on TAKS objectives to prepare them for the TAKS test.  It is important that all students are in attendance and on time daily.  There is not a second to spare; a student misses valuable information every time they are out of the classroom.  We want to encourage all our parents to attend mid year conferences, we cannot move forward without your support.  Parents of 2nd through 4th grade students, just a reminder to continue monitoring your child’s grades on VSI.

Thank you to all our parents who attended our Family Literacy Meeting and our Fathering Session. January is board recognition month, so don’t forget to thank your local school board members for the dedication and commitment they have to enhancing our students’ education!

Keep shining that Roadrunner Pride!
